Project Overview
My client has been a developer for many years and after years of working and cutting his teeth in the tech industry, he decided to venture out and create his own company: Rubber Ducky Solutions.
The Ask
Branding
Create a brand for his company that matched his personality, interest, and values:
Fun and light-hearted
Sincere and honest
Aesthetic nods to the outdoors
Website
Marketing site that reflected the newly created brand to help advertise his development services and act as a way to showcase his abilities as a full-stack developer.
Brand Elements
What’s behind the name “Rubber Ducky Solutions”?
In his own words, “Rubber ducky debugging is a well known practice in the software development world. The idea is to have a rubber ducky (or many) on your desk to explain the problem to and viola! Talking through the problem helps you solve it. Rubber ducky's are a safe, non-judgemental space to work through challenges.”
I pulled in the colors orange and black to reflect those seen on a typical rubber ducky. I then used some common development symbols (parentheses and a caret) and created the image of a rubber duck, a bold symbol that can stand on its own.
To complete the logo, I used a combination of Google fonts that blended the ideas of whimsy and charm with professionalism.
Colors & Imagery
A mix of bright white backgrounds and smoky dark backgrounds were used to make the elements of color (orange, yellow, and subtle gradients of both) stand out and provide emphasis to the most important content.
To add in elements that spoke to my client’s outdoors interests, ambient images of nature, specifically those speaking to creation (a log fire) and journey (a winding road) were used as background elements throughout the site’s design.
TITLE FONT
BODY FONT
Iconography
I created many graphic elements to help blend these emotional elements of the brand with the developmental focus of the company.
